27 Aug Crescendo, TotalSoft and Ness, champions of software and services in 2008
Three of the most important players in the local software and services market – Forte, Romsys and Softwin – had a business decline in 2008, Ness Technologies Romania, CRESCENDO or Siveco making considerable advances over the previous period.
Mihai Gherman, general manager of Siemens IT Solutions and Services, the IT division of Siemens Romania, former Forte Business Services, says the 2008 decline was due to a lack of projects, especially in the public sector.
The Romsys integrator, which was acquired at the end of 2007 by the Austrian New Frontier Holding Company, went through a process of reorganization and redefinition of the new shareholder’s objectives in 2008, so businesses were slightly lower than in 2007, up to 23.3 million euros.
And the company’s profit dropped 39% last year to 2.5 million euros. Softwin’s over 40% drop is caused, according to company officials, by BitDefender’s softwinning in Softwin in mid-2007.
Growth champion was CRESCENDO last year, whose business grew by over 70% and profit advanced by 85%.
Marius Tulea, general manager of the company, says the main engines of the business were the projects that have been worked out in previous years and that materialized in 2008.
Service provider Ness Technologies Romania also grew significantly in 2008 to 28.4 million euros, from 18.7 million euros in 2007, mainly due to projects in utilities.
Siveco Romania, one of the leading software makers, has advanced 31% last year to 65 million euros, according to data from the Ministry of Finance, on projects including the sale of IT services and software licenses and maintenance.
TotalSoft reported a turnover of 14.8 million euros in 2008, 40% higher than last year, and a 57% increase of 2.2 million euros. The largest contracts made in 2008 by TotalSoft were Petrom, IBX, Medicover International, and the most important revenues came from the sale of Charisma, which brought more than half of its turnover to the company.
