26 Nov Cisco Unified Communications solution at ABB Romania
Bucharest, November 26, 2009 ABB Romania, a leader in the energy and automation market in Romania and a member of ABB Group, has introduced a unified communications solution to improve workflows and reduce communications costs. The project also involved the modernization of the IT network and the interconnection of two company locations. The solution was designed and implemented by CRESCENDO, Cisco’s Silver Partner in Romania.
Main elements:
- The system adopted by ABB is an integrated IP-based voice communication solution that involves reconfiguring the IT network, designing and deploying an IP telephony system, voice messaging solution, and an added wireless component.
- The project responds to the key ABB requirements: to provide an unified IP-based voice communications solution for employees in different locations whose communication needs are very large and need a personal external number such and to provide wireless access to ABB locations, including an area for employees and one for visitors, with differential access to network resources (full access for employees and limited to visitors). The company also looked for a state-of-the-art system that allows investment protection for at least five years, be flexible and scalable, and easily adaptable to future needs.
- In addition, the solution allows ABB Romania to reduce its communications costs, with the estimated savings of up to 40% using the new system.
- The project involved the design and implementation of a Cisco unified communications system with individual voicemail and an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system. The IVR facility has been configured so that customers can be served at any time, even outside the hours of the program without human intervention, even before the call reaches the receptionist. Pre-recorded, customized messages depending on the time of day or year can be added.
- The solution, operational since April 2009, was designed and implemented by CRESCENDO, a Cisco Silver Certified Partner in Romania in less than a month, thus avoiding any productivity loss. The system developed by CRESCENDO for ABB Romania allows further integration with the regional operations of the company, such as Bulgaria, which was already using Cisco unified communications solutions.
- From a technical perspective, one of the specific requirements was to configure Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) for a specific ABB employee group. This feature, configured on a voice gateway, allows the use of IP phones even if the system loses the IP connection from the Internet service provider, and offers the availability of the Cisco Unity Express voice mail system.
- To simplify access to voicemail, IP phones have been configured so that users can access a one-touch login page directly from the IP phone screen. After authentication, the user can manage his voicemail, which has many features.
- Cisco Unified IP Phones were configured with an energy-saving feature: if used, they stay in standby mode until the user initiates an interaction. Thus, energy consumption can be reduced by 50-60% for a phone.
“Cisco collaboration solutions allow for a new way of working, based on mobility, flexibility and collaboration among employees. Implementation from ABB Romania proves once again the value of our integrated solutions for unified communications,” said Cristian Popescu, Interim General Manager, Cisco Romania.
“As ABB Romania’s communications needs have increased significantly, investing in a solution that provides a continuous flow of information between headquarters and other locations has become a must,” said Calin Ardelean, IS Manager of ABB Romania. “The chosen solution has provided us with significant benefits: increased productivity, lower costs, investment protection and an implementation period of up to 30 days.”
“Our team has provided the technical design and implemented the Cisco solution. The skills and experience accumulated by our specialists in implementing communications solutions, as well as Cisco’s high-quality products have helped us meet the customer’s needs within the required time frame. Now, Cisco Unified Communications solutions enable ABB to increase productivity and maintain its competitive edge,” said Costel Cristea, Communications Business Unit Manager, CRESCENDO.
